Yvette Halback

 

   

Yvette Halback was born in Florida and raised by her mother in Woodstock, New York. Her mother taught poetry at the Woodstock Montessori school and had a local poetry show. Yvette attended Chapman University in California, majoring in communications, where she made a short film about one of her mother's poems. She then transferred to Loyola University in New Orleans, where she majored in communications with a double minor in comparative religion and women's studies. Yvette has spoken at several venues focusing on women's rights in both New Orleans and New York, and she continued her education in New Paltz, NY where she focused on public speaking and human services. Yvette was a social worker for over ten years, working with clients diagnosed with mental illness, addiction issues and HIV/AIDS. She has worked in New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville. She moved to North Carolina two years ago after her husband lost his battle with lung cancer. Yvette lives in Carolina Trace with her son and is working on a novel about a family growing up in creole society in New Orleans.
